A submersible pump functions by pushing, as divergent to drawing, liquid during the pumping procedure. This is enormously efficient since the pump utilizes the head of liquid in which it is submerged to function and no energy is spent in drawing the liquid into the pump. The motor is refrigerated by the liquid around it, averting overheating. Several submersible pumps in the oil as well as gas industry work according to the Electric Submersible Pumping (ESP) principle.
